Xiaomi Redmi S2

Looks like, Xiaomi is all set to launch its third Redmi phone of the year after the popular Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro –Xiaomi Redmi S2. Shutting all rumours about the launch timeline, Xiaomi has now officially teased to launch the Redmi S2 on May 10. Xiaomi officially confirmed the rumors of an upcoming Redmi S2 phone on its Weibo page. On the social media network, the company released an image, revealing a pink phone in the hands of the Chinese actor Turbo Liu. The device will be introduced on May 10 in the city of Nanjing, China.

Xiaomi has released the Redmi S2 teaser on the Chinese micro-blogging site – Weibo. The teaser carries the term “Surprise”, with the letter “S” mostly highlighted, hinting at the coming of Redmi S2. Alongside the term “Surprise” the teaser also includes the date May 10. According to reports, the Redmi S2 will hit China first, followed by other markets including India. In China, Xiaomi Redmi S2 is expected to be available on Suning.com. As of now, there’s no official word on the India launch of the phone, however, we can expect Xiaomi to launch the device very soon, probably in the next couple of months or so. Xiaomi Redmi S2 expected specifications:

Xiaomi Redmi S2 has been subjected to several leaks and rumours ahead of the launch. In this particular case, a source out of the Czech Pepublic, appears to offer high-resolution photos and detailed specs on the still unofficial device. As far as the design is concerned, the smartphone is expected to boast off the similar design as the recently launched Redmi Note 5 Pro and Mi 6X, which is said to come to India as Mi A2. The Redmi S2 has already appeared on TENAA and 3C certification benchmarking sites.

Redmi S2 is equipped with an 5.99-inch, 18:9, IPS display, rocking a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels, or HD+. It is powered by the tried, true and efficient Snapdragon 625 chipset, along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage.

The dual rear camera setup, arranged in the new Xiaomi vertical fashion, consists of a 12MP main snapper and a 5MP secondary one. No word on the selfie from the new source. But previous leaks hint at a 16MP unit. One notable mismatch in the new info is the battery capacity. The Czech site claims their unit has a 4,205 mAh sealed-in pack. Quite an improvement over the previously suggested 3,000 mAh.

Other details about the Redmi S2 include an Android 8.1, Oreo ROM, a rear-mounted fingerprint reader and 3.5mm audio jack. The latter two are clearly visible on some of the hands-on shots and so is the dated microUSB connector, Xiaomi is unfortunately still sticking with.Speaking of the photos, the unit they showcase is clearly a pre-production one, as evident by the markings on the front and back. Apparently, the source has some affiliation with a Xiaomi store, opening for business in the Czech Republic today. That seems like a viable enough explanation as to where the device came from, although we are still not entirely sure the owners won’t get into trouble for the early reveal.

Regardless, we get to see the Redmi S2 up close as well. Plus, the source also features an invitation to attend the store’s grand opening in Prague today and potentially even see the Redmi S2 unit in person. There should also be promotions and special offers on location. If you happen to be be nearby, it might be worth checking out.
